I started my business with an online shop too. But let me start my story from the beginning.
I grew up in a city called Bangalore – the silicon valley of India. There is a running joke that if you throw a stone in Bangalore, it will either land on a dog or a software engineer. And my dream was no different, I wanted to become a software engineer at Google. I still remember the pact I had with my best friend that I would join Google someday and she would be with Apple. Changing the world.
I graduated with a Masters degree in Computer Science and fresh out of college, I chose to work for a data analytics firm in my hometown. A couple of days into the job, I knew it wasn’t the place for me. Too many restrictions. Uninspiring work. Not-so-awesome work environment. I hated it.
So I applied for a research internship at the Carnegie Mellon University and moved to the United states.
The academic environment was a breath of fresh air from the uninspiring corporate world, but it still didn't quench my creative, stationery-obsessed, color-loving soul.
One night while browsing the internet for reviews on Sephora.com, I stumbled upon a beauty blog. And then another. And then another. I got sucked in. I was like Charlie in the chocolate factory, like the heart eyes emoji looking at all these people online talking about what they love, having a ball.
It started off as a lifestyle blog and I was obsessed about growing my audience online.
Meanwhile, I got married to my high-school sweetheart and moved to Seattle. My research job was going pretty well, but I couldn’t shake the idea of doing something big with Pinkpot. I became more intentional with my blog and spent hours honing my design & photography skills. Since I knew how to code easily, I would spend hours creating new blog designs in my spare time and I enjoyed doing it. A lot.
In 2015, I started an Etsy shop to sell the blog designs I had created. Within 4 months of opening shop, I had hit a 100 sales. A 100! Seriously? This lit a fire in my heart to dig more into online entrepreneurship and pursue my passion for design and photography. I quit my job to become a full-time web-designer at the end of 2015.
It all started with the Etsy shop and I can’t be more grateful for how my business has grown into a full fledged online studio for creative businesses. In the past 4 years, I have had the opportunity to serve 60+ clients, 700+ creatives through my courses and products, speak at creative conferences all over the country and live a joyful life of creativity and freedom.
I thrive on helping entrepreneurs craft a powerful visual presence through conversion-focused web design and product photography.
And oh, we just welcomed a baby to our family. So while I am not running my business, I am probably running around my little, naughty munchkin.
